Excuse me, do you have the Thyme?

Excuse me, do you have the Thyme?

Oh you guys!! I had a most amazing essential oil experience yesterday!

So, I’ve been a doTERRA wellness advocate for almost 2 years now, and I firmly believe in their long term effects and benefits, but I’ve never had an instant gratification experience with them. UNTIL YESTERDAY!

I regularly use different essential oils for many different things:

  • Breathe for asthma and other respiratory issues
  • OnGuard for cold prevention
  • Oregano and peppermint for immune-boosting effects
  • Lemongrass for circulatory and lymph issues
  • PastTense for headaches and sore muscles
  • DeepBlue for sore muscles (I have a lot of sore muscles, okay?!)
  • Lemon, Peppermint, Oregano, Melaleuca in a steamer cup for sinus pressure/congestion
  • Melaleuca for skin blemishes
  • Frankincense for improvement of appearance of scars and for immune support
  • Peace to keep me from freaking out on my coworkers
  • Motivate and Align to help me focus on getting my task list done
  • Anchor for meditation
  • Lavender and Black Pepper for peaceful sleep

…and a whole bunch of other oils for a bunch of other shit as it arises!

Essential oil use isn’t something new to me or something I’m the least bit skeptical about, but I’ve never really had that ah-ha moment where I tried something and it changed my life; I’ve just always believed in alternative and complementary medicine.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it, but I’ve had some pretty significantly limiting foot pain for a few years now and I’ve always assumed – and sought treatment for – plantar fasciitis. After several (only slightly) successful rounds of physical therapy and having exhausted my lifetime number of cortisone injections, I decided to have another physical therapy evaluation by ALL of the therapists at the clinic. I was used as one of their “professional development” courses and they all, as a team, evaluated my symptoms as if they’d never treated me before.

Come to find out, the pain is caused by sciatica! Who freaking knew?! I have always denied any sciatic nerve involvement because I’ve never had any back problems. But, now that ya mention it, when I lay flat on my back in bed, the outside of my left thigh goes numb…. huh, I do have back problems!

Now that we got that nailed down, we were able to change the treatment plan. I have a bunch of stretches and mobilization exercises I do daily to help with the nerve movement and prevent the numbness and tingling and it’s been improving my foot pain quite steadily! As long as I keep up with my stretches and work out regularly, I don’t have the tingly numbness. But last week, I wasn’t able to make it to my gym, which also means that I neglected my PT exercises/stretches; so I found myself suffering from increased sciatic nerve symptoms! I would have the numby-tingles almost constantly, no matter what position I held my body in – sitting, standing, laying. I’m back to the gym this week and back on my stretches, but it’s going to take a while to get my nerve mobilized again so I needed some help managing the symptoms in the meantime.

Well, I decided to have a look in my Modern Essentials book; which is like the Physician’s Desk Reference of essential oils and I love it so much! Anyway, I looked up sciatica and chose 2 of the top-recommended oils. I proceeded to grab a handful of coconut oil and add 2 drops of Thyme and 2 drops of Peppermint and slather my lower back, buttocks, and left thigh in it.

Within minutes, my numbness and tingling was gone.

Like I said, I believe in the power of essential oils and other natural forms of medicine, but I’ve never had an experience like this before! It completely blew my mind! I’m all but shouting from the street corner about the glories of this oil combo for my sciatica! My symptoms stayed gone until early afternoon – about 5 hours – and then I reapplied and they were gone again! I seriously cannot believe the miraculous relief that I’m experiencing; I used the concoction again today, and BAM! No symptoms!

It’s really even more exciting for me because I’ve really struggled with my “why” statement with doTERRA for the past year – since I decided I wanted to build a business. I hadn’t had any particularly convincing or exciting oil experiences, I just knew that they worked and really believed in them. But now! Now, I’ve had a literal life changing experience with my oils and I can build off of that for my “why”! I think it’s going to be a strong statement, because it did take me so long to have to ah-ha feeling!

Anyway, I just had to share this with you all and if you don’t know about essential oils, PLEASE get in contact with me so you can have your own oil experience!

Today I am grateful for the ability to take my healthcare into my own hands.
